oligoporin D
compound / compound-oligoporin-d
オリゴポリンD
Oligoporin D is a triterpene glycoside bitter compound isolated from the polypore fungus Amaropostia stiptica (which has bitter taste). In heterologous expression cell assays, it activates the human bitter taste receptor TAS2R46 at extremely low threshold concentrations.

Reading the bitterness
Oligoporin D is a triterpene glycoside compound isolated from Amaropostia stiptica, a polypore fungus with bitter taste. In screening using cells with heterologously expressed human bitter taste receptors (26 types), oligoporin D activated TAS2R46 at a threshold concentration of 0.1 µM and activated TAS2R46 at the lowest concentration among the bitter compounds tested. The threshold for the same compound against TAS2R1 was 30 µM, with TAS2R46 showing approximately 300-fold greater sensitivity. This is an experiment of receptor activation using heterologously expressed cells and not a measurement of sensory bitterness intensity.
In the same screening, oligoporins A, B, D, and E all activated TAS2R1 at a threshold concentration of 30 µM, whereas oligoporin F did not activate TAS2R1. For oligoporin D, in addition to activation of TAS2R1, TAS2R4, TAS2R14, and TAS2R46, activation of TAS2R41 was also confirmed, albeit more weakly. All are results at the receptor level using heterologously expressed cells and from compounds isolated from a single fungal species.

Checked for this overview: Used the measured threshold concentration for TAS2R46 activation, which was lowest among tested compounds. / Used the pattern of oligoporins' activation of TAS2R1 and other receptors.
