しびれは、約50Hzで振動している

花椒(Sichuan pepper)を口にしたときの、唇がビリビリと痺れるあの感覚。 ロンドン大学の研究チームがヒトの下唇に花椒を塗り、指に与える機械振動と周波数を比べさせたところ、 被験者が感じていた「しびれ」の周波数は一貫して約50Hz—— 触覚のRA1求心性線維が得意とする帯域に一致しました。つまり、あのしびれは比喩ではなく、 知覚の上では本当に「振動」なのです。
